We depart the hotel by restored Vintage Jeep and we are soon travelling on Jeep friendly country roads, and in the real Cambodian countryside! We take some nice country roads east of Siem Reap, stopping to visit a lively local market along the way.
This morning we will travel like the locals and take some time to explore a local village by bicycle. The roads are flat and there is little traffic, so it’s a nice relaxing time and a good opportunity to practice your ‘Soousaday!’ (Hello!) with the local kids.
This area is quite ancient and you can feel it as you pedal around - there are temple ruins hidden in the forests, and some beautiful lotus ponds where we can stop to rest and enjoy the peace and quiet. Some of the locals here could probably trace their lineage back to the angkorian period – their ancestors may well have built some of these temples.
There are a lot of small hobby farms everywhere in Cambodia, with people farming anything from chickens, quails, fish, even frogs! We will make a stop at one of these and meet the families, maybe even feed a frog!
Slow down and enjoy, meet the locals, take some photos and create some memories - this is the real Cambodia
